Urielle’s Kansas City adventures continue today. After helping me fix cheese and herbs crisps and clean out the garage yesterday, I promised her I will take her to The Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art today. She was obviously excited since I didn’t have to wake her up this morning.
We went to the Kauffman Memorial Garden first. The Memorial Garden is the final resting place for Ewing and Muriel Kauffman. This beautiful and serene garden is an oasis in the middle of a busy city. It has an assortment of perennials, annuals and unique shrubs. The flower beds are very well maintained. Tashi and I have been here several times and every visit is always a different experience.
While roaming around the garden, we saw Tashi and I’s good friend Tracy. She works for the Powell Gardens which also maintains the Kauffman Memorial Garden. She gave me and Urielle an informative talk about Missouri’s native plants. She also suggested for us to check out the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center before heading out to the museum. We did and Urielle was delighted.
It was also my first time at the Discovery Center. I was impressed. They have several activities and available information about nature, conservation, and enjoying wildlife. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Even though we both wanted to stay longer and explore the center more we knew we had to cut our tour short to have plenty of time to explore the Nelson-Atkins Museum. The trip to the Discovery Center was impromptu but was definitely worth it. I wish we had more time.
