Revisiting Powell Gardens

Tashi’s birthday gift to me this year was a surprise trip to one of my favorite places, Powell Gardens.

It was a lovely day and the weather was perfect. Below are some of the pictures I took today.

We had lunch at the garden’s Café Thyme. They offer a wide variety of healthy lunch and snacks – fresh produce from Powell Gardens’ Heartland Harvest Garden. We ordered vegetable wraps and yummy soup; kale and wild onion for Tashi and garden carrot for me. Delicious! The candymint iced tea tasted great too! After lunch we proceeded to the Heartland Harvest Garden where they grow almost all the food that we just ate.

The last spot that we checked out was the Tutti Frutti maze – a tasty path winding through berries and mints.

Last treat of the day was this delicious mango madness homemade popsicle. I strongly recommend visiting Powell Gardens. You will love every second you spent there. Here are some of what the garden features:

The 18,000-square-foot Visitor Education Center houses a gift shop, a café and classroom space, plus a glass-topped conservatory.
The 3.25-mile Byron Shultz Nature & Hiking Trail leads visitors past frog-filled ponds, through woods of honey locust and into a field of meadow flowers.
Along Powell Gardens’ 12-acre lake, the colorful Perennial Garden features more than 6,000 plants in 3 ½ acres, including 1,200 varieties hardy to this area.
Discover the Island Garden — a 2-acre oasis of cascading water gardens, secluded gardens and a 600-foot “living” rock wall, the largest of its kind in North America.
The Rock and Waterfall Garden features a dramatic collection of ornamental trees, shrubs and perennials interspersed with native woods, meandering brooks and subtle waterfalls. More than 800 azaleas accompany this garden.
Encounter four creations by world-renowned architect Fay Jones, including a special meditation chapel.
