Three P’s For Stress

I needed to read this today – “God is with you and He is bigger than whatever is stressing you out!” A very timely reminder.  On my way to work today, after a five day vacation, I was already imagining how my desk looks like. I was right. I have an enormous pile of paperwork.  I haven’t even started my day yet and I’m already feeling tired. I’m already stressed.

Stress can wear anybody out pretty good. I am no stranger to that so I wanted to share with you all what I normally do whenever I feel stressed.  Here’s my own antidote for stress and I call them-

The Three P’s for Stress:

Prayer –   How does prayer relieve us from stress?  Simple, when we pray to God, we acknowledge our weaknesses and recognize our dependence upon Him to bring us through anything. It’s easy to get carried away by the ‘super-hero syndrome’.  Sometimes we unknowingly think (I do) that we can handle things ourselves – without God’s help. No, we can’t and that’s a fact. Let’s make it a habit to turn our thoughts and prayers to Him whatever our circumstances are.

Praise – I will never forget what a friend told me once when I went to church feeling gloomy. She told me “Sing it Out!”  True. Music calms your spirit (you know what type of music I am referring to, right?). Believe me, you will find it hard to deal with stress while praising God. You can’t do both. Praise Him!

Perspective – Maintaining a good perspective can help ease out stress. Be positive. I know it’s hard sometimes, but keep doing it. Start by counting your blessings. Next thing you know, your focus has changed.

I am aware that these three P’s, simple as they seem can sometimes be difficult to do. We all stumble. But, remember this – God will help you practice your faith. Just ask Him.

Below are some of the verses I love to read whenever I feel stressed:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11: 28-31)

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. (Psalm 62:1-2)

My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:14)

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31).
