Santa Cali Gon Days Festival

Today, I’m blogging about something I have little or no knowledge about and I’m going to rely on all the links you will find in this blog to make this as informative as possible to everyone, including me.
When a friend asked me if I wanted to go to Santa Cali Gon Days Festival, I thought, “What kind of festival is that”? Anyway, out of curiosity for mullets and the love for a non-frozen corndog, it got me interested to go and take a look at what other things the festival has to offer.

I was told that the festival, which was held at the Independence Square, is an annual celebration of the heritage of the City of Independence, Missouri as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California and Oregon trails (you have to check out the links below to gain more insight about this festival).

As expected, there was too much traffic and (free) parking was quite difficult to find. Tashi was able to find a spot a few blocks away from the Square for $5.00, not bad. Admission was free, which was a real bonus.

There were lots of people (organizers claim that 225,000 people flock this festival every year!), a ferris wheel (I know I’m supposed to say a carnival but I only saw a ferris wheel), several food stalls and giant tents with a bunch of stuff to spend money on – from crafts/arts, clothes, toys, jewelries…anything. There was also a bingo tent, which I learned is back from a seven-year hiatus. We didn’t stay long.  I just wanted to see the festival as a whole. I must say it was really fun and interesting.

On the way-out, our friends showed me where to buy a corndog. It was really good, so good I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture of it. Oh well, next year I’ll remember to do that first.
