There are still good people around. This was proven by a simple act of kindness of a New York City Police Officer Larry DePrimo when he gave a homeless man a new pair of socks and insulated boots in New York’s Time Square. This story happened in November 14 and has gone viral eversince when a cellphone photo of the selfless act was submitted by Jennifer Foster to NYPD’s Facebook page.
I read about the story through Twitter while I was having lunch last Friday. I must say it was truly heartwarming and makes you still want to believe in humanity, despite all the negativity around. With so much positive response I was overwhelmed with the knowledge that truly, there are still good people around us willing to give back. There are still Good Samaritans out there.
The beauty of this is that Officer DePrimo was totally unaware that someone was watching him and in fact was taking pictures of him and his act of kindness to the homeless man, whose face lit up as witnessed by Jennifer Foster, when he saw the pair of shoes DePrimo gave him.
Also worth-mentioning was the Sketchers store who gave DePrimo a 25% discount on his purchases when the store clerk was informed that the pair of shoes were for a homeless man.
Truly, the test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching!
We need more uplifting stories like this!
“You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”—Malcolm S. Forbes.
